U14 Excellence Program

The Ringette NS Excellence Program is intended for athletes who are looking to advance along their ringette pathway to high-performance events and programs such as the Canada Winter Games, National Ringette League, and the Ringette Canada National Program. The Excellence Program provides these athletes with supplemental training and competition to support their long-term high-performance goals.

The Excellence Program is open to athletes at U14, U16, U19 and 18+. The Program follows the stages of the Canadian Sport for Life's Long Term Athlete Development Framework, so programming will vary depending on the particular LTAD stage, as follows:

  • Training to Train (females 12-13 years of age (early stage); females 14-15 years of age (later stage);
  • Training to Compete (females 16-18 years of age);
  • Learning to Win (females 18-19+); and
  • Competing to Win (females 18+)

The U14 program is designed to reflect the fact that all U14 athletes are young athletes in the early stage of Training to Train within the LTAD model. Accordingly, the focus of this program will be on the development and achievement of athlete and team goals, including sport specific skills and tactical development. In addition to ringette skills and concepts, athletes will learn about goal setting, self-confidence, communication strategies, and mental focus.

The competition opportunities may include inter-provincial play, the Atlantic Ringette Championships (NS February 16-18, 2024) and the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships (PEI, dates TBD).

The number of athletes screened into the Excellence Ringette Program for the 2023/2024 season is not predetermined. The size of the 2023/2024 Excellence Ringette Program cohort will be dependent on the number of athletes that complete the assessments, and overall performance of the applicants in each age division.

Depending on athlete interest and ability, Ringette NS is also interested in offering a U14 Development Program for athletes who are not placed on a team or who wish to participate in supplemental training and competition, but do not wish to attend Atlantics or Easterns.
