Ringette NS U12 Enrichment Program

Ringette NS U12 Enrichment Program

The U12 Enrichment Program offers participants the opportunity to develop and gain confidence in their ringette-specific skills while having fun, making new friends from other Associations, staying active, and meeting new coaches and enjoying a variety of different coaching styles and methods. The Program is designed to complement and build upon Association U12 programs by offering additional development, fun and friendship for those seeking the same.

Program Overview

The U12 Enrichment Program is open to all U12-age ringette players in Nova Scotia, regardless of their current abilities, skills and motivations for joining the program. The goal of the U12 Enrichment Program is to enhance developmental opportunities through equal treatment and opportunity, while accommodating each participant’s different needs depending where they are on their developmental journey. This is not a tiered program, but rather, is one which recognizes each participant's individual needs, and aims to support and challenge each participant accordingly.

Participants in U12 are in the later stages of the Learn to Train stage of development in the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) program. This stage is a critical phase in the development of sport specific skills. The U12 Enrichment Program follows the Ringette Canada U12 Athlete Development Matrix and Skills Matrix (attached), focussing on skating development, ringette specific skills development, physical literacy, and basic ringette strategy including both offensive and defensive tactics.

Between December and February, sessions will focus on individual skill development, including shooting and dekes, passing and receiving, checking, skating starts and stops, skating transitions and changes of direction, and body positioning and marking. For goalies, sessions will focus on stage-appropriate goalie skills, all under the instruction of individual goalie coaches. In March, participants will be placed on teams, each with their own coaching staff, and each team will have the opportunity to work on offensive and defensive work and team tactics.

The U12 Enrichment Program will culminate in a U12 Enrichment weekend in West Hants, April 5 and 6, 2025. This year-end Enrichment event will feature a round-robin tournament between U12 Enrichment teams, as well as a variety of off-ice and on-ice activities.

Schedule

All sessions take place on Sundays at either the Forum or West Hants Sports Complex. New this year are optional monthly teambuilder sessions to attend NS Excellence or 18+ games on Saturdays - contests to be held for fan participation at these sessions!
